Garyoung Lee

Garyoung is currently pursuing her PhD at Georgia Tech, after completing her Bachelor’s (2019) and Master’s degrees (2021) at Seoul National University in South Korea. Her academic focus is wide-ranging, covering areas such as the behaviors of self-driving and electric vehicles, the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram, and traffic criticality. Outside the research, Garyoung is a travel, coffee, and small-ball sports aficionado. 🏓🎾🎳⛳️

Hao Zhou

Hao acquired his Bachelor’s and M.S. degree from Southeast University, China. He was previously working on highway engineering, with focus on vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and driving simulation. After starting his PhD in Georgia Tech, Hao is interested in lane changing behaviors and emulating machine learning techniques for conventional traffic flow theory. In life, Hao is a fun-lover and likes classical music and tea. 

Rafegh Aghamohammadi

Rafegh earned his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering and M.Sc. degree in Highway and Transportation Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. Prior to joining Traffic Lab at Georgia Tech, Rafegh had conducted research on Highway Geometric Design and Traffic Flow Characteristics in Work Zones during his undergraduate and master’s studies. Currently, Rafegh is working on a Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD) and novel methods of incorporating it into Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA).

Tu Xu

Zhejiang, China

Tu earned a B.S. in Physics (2016) in Fudan University, China.  His research focus on the statistical inference on microscopic car-following models.  He also works on a Variable Speed Limit (VSL) and Ramp Metering (RM) project with GDOT.  He has experience in traffic modeling with VISSIM, Synchro and HCS, with Pond & Company.  He is also interested in applying machine learning and deep learning skills to address real-world challenges especially in the area of smart city and autonomous vehicles.

Hyun Woong Cho

Hyun Woong Cho is from Seoul, South Korea. He is a first-year Ph.D. student. He earned a B.S.(2010) and a M.S.(2012) in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Seoul National University. He likes travel and walking around new places.

Rama Chilukuri

Rama earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and M.S in Civil Engineering (Transportation emphasis) from University of Utah. After obtaining his masters degree, he worked as a consulting traffic engineer in Salt Lake City and Houston, before moving to Atlanta to pursue Ph.D. His primary interests include traffic flow theory and simulation. He is currently working on developing optimal ramp metering strategies for his dissertation. In his free time, Rama enjoys spending time with his family and playing tennis.

Chris Toth

Chris earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and is a second year PhD student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research interests include traffic flow theory and driver behavior models. In his spare time, Chris enjoys bicycling and using the MyTracks application on his phone.

Felipe Castrillon

Felipe was born in Bogota, Colombia, and moved to Fort Lauderdale Florida as a teenager. He studied at the College of the Holy Cross where he received a B.A. in Economics, and at Columbia University where he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering. Felipe loves to play soccer, take long walks on the beach, and spend time with family and friends

Yi (Joy) Zhou

Yi Zhou is currently in the dual degree master program  (CEE and City and Regional Planning) working on  the estimation of the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram for urban networks,  and will soon begin her PhD work with Dr. Laval in the area of microscopic car-following model and  lane-changing.

Santiago Araque is a first-year Master’s student with a focus on traffic flow theory. He was born in Bogota, Colombia, and moved to Augusta, Georgia as a teenager. He did his undergrad at Georgia Tech where he studied Civil Engineering. He loves to play and watch soccer, hang out with friend and family, and attend sporting events.

Danjue Chen

Her research focuses on traffic flow theory and simulations, and her dissertation is about traffic oscillations.  She is from Chaozhou, a small city in southeastern of China that is famous for its food. Danjue attended Peking University and earned a B.S. in environmental science.
